Kevin Rodgers was well known in emergency medicine as an educator and leader. At the time of his death he was the president of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine (AAEM), and had served on the board of directors of that organization for 12 years.

“Throughout the course of his career, Dr. Rodgers demonstrated incredible leadership and dedication to AAEM,” wrote Dr. David Farcy, President-Elect of AAEM, in an open letter.

“He has been an integral part of AAEM’s educational programs and was a tireless champion for the organization.”

Rodgers also served as the Residency Director Emeritus for Indiana University’s Emergency Medicine program. In a statement, Indiana University officials called Rodgers, “one of our most revered faculty members.” In 2015, Rodgers received the university’s Inspirational Educator Award “in recognition of extraordinary teaching, based on the growth, development and professionalism of learners.”

During his time in AAEM leadership, Rodgers was also the recipient of the AAEM Program Director of the Year Award and the Joe Lex Educator of the Year Award.

On top of his varied roles and responsibilities, Rodgers found the time to serve on medical missions, maintaining and staffing a clinic in Haiti since 2000.
