  1. Congratulations to Dr. Tintinalli and to EPM! There are numerous challenges confronting the House of Medicine and our specialty of emergency medicine. Here’s hoping that EPM continues to highlight these financial, work force, and ethical challenges, as well as the evolving and pragmatic solutions to these problems from around the world.

For example, geriatric adults will continue to become an ever larger presence in the contemporary ED for the next 30 years. The SAEM Academy of Geriatric Emergency Medicine and ACEP Geriatric Section have published several key documents pertaining to the geriatric patient in the ED over the last 5-years including minimal core competencies for graduating EM residents, high-yield research priorities, and a response to the IOM report on the state of emergency medicine. We will need advocates like EPM to help us disseminate these and future consensus-driven, evidence-based work products to the end-users: EPM’s legions or readers.

As a strong advocate of Evidence Based Medicine and Knowledge Translation, I also hope that EPM will continue to provide an outlet for practice-changing research evidence to reach bedside clinicians in an expeditious fashion so that the typical 17-year delay for 14% of the evidence to reach the bedside can be significantly improved.

Best of luck on this new chapter in the history of EPM!

    Chris

Judy was my residency director in the early ’90’s and, omg! She looks absolutely the same! (I am much older, a tad heavier, and more tired..) I can’t wait to read the influences that she brings to one of my favorite publications! Congratulations!
