Check out these ACEP20 Digital Health Innovators.

In additional to the virtual lectures at ACEP20, the annual IncubatED featured a ‘shark tank’ pitch event highlighting four new digital health companies. These finalists created solutions for charting, patient triage, expert consultation and dynamic staffing. ACEP also launched ITS new EMergence podcast, which focuses on innovation for the Emergency Department.

Retrieve Medical’s Dx

More Disruption - Retrieve Medical pic

Retrieve Dx is a real-time, cloud-based Clinical Document Improvement (CDI) application that improves care by alerting the physician to patient comorbidities and pre-existing conditions. It was built by physicians with a goal of converting clerical burdens into clinical time. Dx eliminates the need to mine the Electronic Health Record (EHR) for a patient’s medical history and reduces time spent doing chart reconnaissance.

Optimized viewing of a patient’s full medical history improves decision-making and diagnosis, optimizes reimbursement and increases physician satisfaction. It also leads to more comprehensive charting and facilitates better patient hand-offs and admissions.

Retrieve is currently developing a version that will meet ACEP’s Geriatric Emergency Department Guidelines. To learn more, visit their website, view their ACEP20 pitch, and listen to the ACEP EMergence podcast featuring Dr. Mark Henry, Chairman of Emergency Medicine at Stony Brook University Hospital.

Infermedica’s Symptomate

More Disruption - Infermedica

Infermedica created an AI-based Care Coordination Platform that includes a set of triage tools that help patients find a preliminary diagnosis and receive guidance for the next steps for appropriate care (see graphic).

One of Infermedica’s triage tools is the Symptom Checker and this is used by patients, physicians and health systems. Patients use the Symptom Checker to research their symptoms and connect with a health system, physicians use the patient information to complete an ‘HPI’ and save time charting, and healthcare systems are able to acquire patients and improve the efficiency of treatment.

The AI-based triage system asks personalized questions related to the patient’s symptoms and risk factors, and is more flexible and faster than a decision-tree-based model. The platform is evidence-based and was built by over 30 physicians focusing on medical content, using multi-step clinical validation.

The database covers 742 conditions, 1,362 symptoms and 150 risk factors for both adult and pediatric patients. To learn more, visit their website, try out their symptom checker, Symptomate, watch their ACEP20 pitch and listen to the ACEP EMergence podcast featuring cardiologist, co-founder and Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Irv Loh.

RYTE Health

Medical tech science ai technology, innovative iot global health

RYTE Health uses its AI-powered Telemedicine platform to match patients to one of the eight million consulting physicians in their database who specializes in the patient’s particular pathology.

Their database of medical experts is built using Artificial Intelligence that evaluates their expertise based on the physician’s education and training, research and publications, procedures and outcomes, and reviews. RYTE then facilitates a telemedicine consultation with the patient, their local physician and the consulting physician.

Medical knowledge has expanded so rapidly that the patient’s local physician may not be up to speed on over 20,000 known diseases and their associated treatments, but they know their patient’s history, have patient records to share and can play a vital role in the patient’s future care. RYTE focuses on speed, specificity, and care navigation.

Medecipher’s Flo

The ED has dynamic shifts in patient volume and acuity. This uncertainty makes staffing a difficult process, and optimizing a work schedule takes more than a calendar and an Excel spreadsheet.

Medecipher’s EHR-based, real-time online decision platform helps operation management by creating a nursing staff scheduling that meets patient demand, reduces burnout, ensures safer staffing levels, saves 3% to 5% after implementation, and improves nursing satisfaction. Decipher prevents the mismatch of resources that does not account for nurse’s unique skill sets and preferences for patient flow.

The platform is AI and research-driven and the cloud-based solution improves safety and quality of care for ED patients by improving operations, reducing wait times, decreasing length of stay and preventing unsafe staffing ratios.

To learn more, visit their website, view their ACEP20 pitch and listen to the ACEP EMergence podcast featuring Stephanie Gravenor, CEO of Medecipher.
